Meet Robyn Linde, one of RIEEA’s new board members of 2025!
Robyn is a professor of political science and the director of the International Nongovernmental and Nonprofit Organizations Studies program at Rhode Island College in Providence, R.I. Her book, The Globalization of Childhood: The International Diffusion of Norms and Law Against the Child Death Penalty, was published in 2016 by Oxford University Press. She has also been published in the Journal of Human Rights, the European Journal of International Relations, Case Research Journal, Radical Teacher, the International Journal of Minority and Group Rights, and the International Journal of Children’s Rights. Her current research is on the role of the state in governing sex and sexuality, especially communities of LGTBIQ+ and sex workers. She is the founder of the Rhode Island College Food Justice project, where students work in their home communities on issues of food deserts, apartheid, and justice alongside various community stakeholders. She is also a member of the FoodTank: the Think Tank for Food. She currently serves on the board of Amnesty International USA.

What’s your favorite outdoor place in Rhode Island, and why?
Blue beach in the off-season. I find it soothes my soul.
How did you get involved in the environmental field?
Through scholarship on environmental activism, law, and organizations.
What’s your favorite environmental fact to share?
An odd-looking bird, the endangered Great Indian Bustard (the notorious G.I.B.) is sparking a conservation movement led by youth in India.
Why did you become a RIEEA board member?
I care very deeply about fostering student engagement with environmental activism.
What are you most looking forward to in serving on the RIEEA board?
I’m most interested in working at the local level for local change. I want to feel connected to the issues facing my community.
Anything else you want us to include in your profile?
I am an obsessive tomato gardener. My favorite tomato is the Pineapple Tomato (chef’s kiss).
