RIEEA is pleased to announce a featured presenter for our upcoming Rhode Island Youth Climate Conference will be SJ Jennings, founder of Halcyon ELIT Consulting and program manager for Earth Force.
SJ Jennings (she/they) is an educator, facilitator, and community connector dedicated to transforming how young people and adults work together for climate justice. As the founder of Halcyon ELIT Consulting, SJ partners with schools, nonprofits, and community organizations to build capacity for liberatory, intersectional, and inquiry-driven environmental learning. Their work centers youth leadership, collective care, and the belief that meaningful action grows from authentic relationships.
With more than a decade of experience teaching in Title I public schools and leading professional learning across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, SJ supports adults in shifting power back to young people, as thoughtful partners in climate planning to action. Through workshops and coaching, they help educators and partners co-create place-based, project-based, student-led experiences that bridge ecological literacy, justice, and civic agency.
Based in Scituate, RI in her mobile tiny cabin, SJ is active in the Rhode Island Environmental Education Association (RIEEA), Showing Up for Racial Justice Providence, the People’s Port Authority, and an organizer for queer radical community joy with groups like Radical Adventure Riders (RAR). She is also an adjunct professor at URI, teaching topics that span from foundations of environmental education and program equity in evaluation. Their facilitation practice invites participants to “build capacity to care wildly”—fostering learning communities rooted in respect, reciprocity, and shared power.
