We are proud to recognize Natalie Tarr (she/her) of Bristol, RI, as our 2025 Teacher of the Year! The RIEEA Environmental Education Awards annually celebrates those who exemplify dedication and commitment to outdoor learning and recreation.
Natalie Tarr is an Environmental Science and Biology teacher at East Providence High School and a trailblazer in the outdoor teaching movement. As a public high school educator, Natalie has led a series of impactful, nature-based learning experiences, from water testing and nature journaling at Caratunk Wildlife Refuge to invasive species removal via kayak on the Blackstone River. Through local and state partnerships, her students have also raised and released Atlantic salmon, learned to fish, studied birds, and researched crabs. In addition to her high school teaching, Natalie is an adjunct professor at Bristol Community College and a co-leader of professional development workshops on climate literacy. Natalie is a true champion of learning beyond classroom walls and getting students outside.
Join RIEEA as we recognize and celebrate these winners at a ceremony on Thursday, October 9, 6:00-8:00pm, at the Save The Bay Center in Providence. There will be lite fare served by a local caterer; open bar with local wine, beer, and soft drinks; live music; and a short program in which the winners will accept their awards.
