Be honored for your efforts to make your school healthy and sustainable!

We are excited to share the opening of the 2022-2023 Green Ribbon Schools Award Program. For the twelfth year, the US Department of Education invites state education authorities to nominate schools, early learning centers, districts, and post-secondary institutions that demonstrate progress in three areas or “pillars:”

  1. Reducing environmental impact and costs, encompassing facilities, grounds, energy, waste, water, and transportation matters;
  2. Improving the health and wellness of students and staff, encompassing environmental health, nutrition, and outdoors physical activity; and
  3. Teaching effective environmental sustainability education.

A Green Ribbon School Award is a great way to showcase and be honored for the great work your school is doing! Awardees have enjoyed significant and well deserved media attention in the past and have used the award to strengthen grant applications. The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) will accept applications from RI schools until January 15, 2023 and will then make its recommendations to the US Department of Education.Check out RIDE’s website for more information about past state honorees and the application process, and access the 2022-2023 application.
