Our range of school and adult programs, field trips, teacher trainings, and annual festival at the Institute’s Center for Sustainability feature a variety of workshops, speakers and study circles for people of all ages.

The Audubon Society of Rhode Island, the state's first environmental organization, protects nearly 9,500 acres of diverse natural habitats across our region. Audubon’s mission promotes environmental education, conservation and advocacy. Audubon offers dynamic hands-on, science-based environmental education programs that help teachers achieve state standards. The RI Department of Environmental Management (DEM) Division of Forest Environment manages 40,000 acres of state-owned rural forestland; promotes public understanding of environmental conservation; enforces the rules and regulations on DEM lands; assists the federal government in providing landowner assistance programs; and more.

RI Envirothon
RI Envirothon, Inc. promotes a year long program of study for high-school aged students in the fields of Soils/land use, Forestry, Wildlife, Aquatic Ecology, and an Environmental Issue, which changes annually. The program culminates in the annual “Envirothon”, a competition who’s winning team goes on to represent Rhode Island in the Canon International Envirothon. Friends of Ballard Park (FBP) is dedicated to protecting, maintaining and promoting Newport, RI's only nature preserve. In addition to educational programming, FBP hosts free cultural activities such as concerts and movie screenings throughout the year in the thirteen-acre park.

In partnership with committed adult volunteers, Girl Scouts of Rhode Island develops courage, confidence and character in order to make the world a better place. Leadership experiences in the outdoors are a key part of girl scouting. Girls discover the natural world through hiking and camping, they work with experts in environmental science, and they take action through community service projects and award initiatives.

Greene_School The Greene School

The Greene School is a public, charter high school serving students in grades 9-11 in the 2011-2012 school year.  We will add 12th grade in the 2012-2012 school year.  The school has a curriculum based on environmental science and the technology that affects our natural world.  The school will promote a culture of personal, community and global stewardship.

NBNERRNarragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve  Narragansett Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (NBNERR) strives to raise awareness and understanding of the cultural, historical, and ecological significance of Narragansett Bay through education and interpretation. The Reserve integrates estuarine research and monitoring, natural resources protection, and management with education, outreach, and training.  The Reserve is part of the national network of 28 National Estuarine Research Reserves (NERRs) representing distinct coastal ecosystems.

NBSNorman Bird Sanctuary
Located in Middletown, Rhode Island, the Norman Bird Sanctuary is a 325-acre wildlife refuge and environmental education center with over seven miles of trails and a diversity of forest, pond, ridge, and coastal habitats. NBS serves over 10,000 students annually through its engaging and interactive nature-based education programs for school, scout, camp, and public audiences.

Childrens_Museum Providence Children's Museum

The mission of Providence Children’s Museum, Rhode Island’s only hands-on museum especially for children and their families, is to inspire and celebrate learning through active play and exploration.  The Museum creates and presents interactive exhibits and hands-on programs that explore the arts, culture, history and science, designed to meet the developmental needs of children ages 1 to 11 and embrace a wide range of learning styles and forms of expression.

Rhode Island Families in Nature was created by and for families that want to spend more time outdoors, explore Rhode Island's natural places, and reconnect with nature. Monthly e-newsletters include tips to help families enjoy nature, recommended books, and many other practical resources. Each month we explore a different natural area in RI together. Membership is free and open to everyone.

RIGEA The Rhode Island Geography Education Alliance

The Rhode Island Geography Education Alliance (RIGEA) was established in 1991 to increase and improve the teaching of geography in Rhode Island schools.  The Alliance is part of a network initiated by the National Geographic Society, which now includes all fifty states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada. 

RIRRC Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation (RIRRC) is dedicated to helping reduce, reuse, and recycle. We operate RI's Central Landfill, Materials Recycling Facility, Leaf & Yard Compost, and Construction & Demolition Debris Facility. We offer many services to RI residents and groups including free tours, presentations, and student mentoring to RI schools.

Zoo Roger Williams Park Zoo
Home to hundreds of rare and fascinating animals from around the world, Roger Williams Park Zoo is the ultimate living classroom. Every year 500,000 people visit the zoo and more than 65,000 children participate in formal education programs including zoo camps, overnights, and classroom visits from the Zoomobile.

 Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation
The Rose Island Lighthouse, established in 1870, was restored and relit in 1993 by the Rose Island Lighthouse Foundation. The foundation uses this historic site as a hands-on demonstration center and living classroom to teach stewardship, conservation and sustainable living through the responsible use of natural resources.

Save The Bay is a non-profit organization that works to protect, restore and explore Narragansett Bay and its watershed. Education is a key component of our mission. We provide hands-on, inquiry-based marine programs to students of all ages aboard our educational vessels along coastlines and inside classrooms. Office_of_Marine_Programs_URI Office of Marine Programs (OMP) - Education and Outreach URI Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO)
The OMP outreach mission is to enhance marine and environmental education and science communications through a range of initiatives within Rhode Island, the U.S., and around the globe by collaborating with scientists, engineers and graduate students from GSO and oceanographic research institutions worldwide. OMP brings current marine science to: K-16 educators and students, the general public, journalists and the media.

WPWA Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association

The Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association promotes and protects the integrity of the lands and waters of the Pawcatuck Watershed, a 300-square mile area of land in southern RI and CT. We educate and inform citizens about the watershed's unique and irreplaceable resources. Educational opportunities include teacher trainings, classroom programs and field trips.
